The correspondence mainly begins with Csokor's departure from Austria in 1938; his densely written letters, which are full of news and inquiries as well as reflections, document the course of his exile (Poland, Romania, Yugoslavia, Italy) and then the postwar years in Vienna, following his reestablishment of residence there in 1947. He discusses matters related to his works of the period, including their publication, translation and performance, and also, on occasion, refers to the works of Franz Werfel. Among the friends and acquaintances who find mention are the actress and writer Lina Loos and the writer Ödön von Horváth (remembrances of the latter, following his death, in 1938). Included is a typed manuscript with handwritten corrections by Csokor of his play Kalypso, which was staged at the Burgtheater in Vienna in 1946; the manuscript itself is labeled as the first typescript and dated 1942, from the Yugoslavian island Korcula, where it had apparently first been publicly read, and it was enclosed in a wrapping with a title page dated December 1946, Zurich. In addition, 1 folder holds Csokor's correspondence with the publisher Gregor Müller (Pegasus Verlag) and Müller's family, from1946 to 1949. The latter folder also includes a letter addressed to Mr. Wiedner; it concerns Wiedner's possible publication of Csokor's work, in particular, the novella Die Angst des Michelangelo.
